Great Grandma’s Buttermilk Pancakes
Enjoy one of my all time favorite recipes from growing up. This is the exact same recipe my great grandma used. No other pancake will be the same!
Ingredients Needed:
Eggs
Sugar
Baking Powder
Baking Soda
Salt
Buttermilk (see recipe notes if you don’t have buttermilk)
Whole Milk
All Purpose Flour
Recipe Notes:
If you don’t have buttermilk you can make your own by using 1 cup of milk adding 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice per one cup of milk and letting sit in fridge for 10-15 minutes to thicken. I like to substitute about 1/4 of my milk and add in heavy cream to get a thicker buttermilk.
To get a thicker pancake add in more flour.
Tools Needed:
Skillet - This is my favorite skillet to cook my pancakes in.
Recipe Ingredients:
1-1 ¼ cup all purpose flour
3 tablespoon of sugar
1 ½ teaspoon baking powder
½ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon of salt
2 eggs
1 cup of buttermilk
½ cup of milk
Directions:
In a medium or large bowl combine 1 cup of flour, 3 tablespoons of sugar, 1 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/1 teaspoon of salt. Mix together.
In your bowl with dry ingredients add in 2 eggs, 1 cup of buttermilk, and 1/2 cup of milk and whisk together.
Place batter in fridge and begin heating your large pan or skillet.
Once your pan is heated add some butter and let melt and then begin ladling batter into pan to get desired size for pancakes.
Cook for about 2 minutes on each side and serve with desired toppings.
Storing Notes:
Batter will keep in the fridge for about 2 days, it will just need to be thoroughly mixed before using. Store cooked pancakes in a container or bag in fridge or freezer.
